UPSC ESE 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria to apply for the Engineering Services Examination 2025 in terms of educational qualification and age limit is available below.

  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens or meet specific criteria for Nepali, Bhutanese, Tibetan refugees, or persons of Indian origin from designated countries.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a recognized Engineering degree from a university or institution, or an equivalent qualification approved by the Government.
  • Age Limit: The age limit for the UPSC Engineering Services Examination is between 21 and 30 years as of January 1, 2025, with relaxations 3 and 5 years for OBC and SC/ST, respectively.

UPSC ESE 2025 Application Fee

Candidates who are interested in appearing in the UPSC ESE 2025 are informed to apply, a male candidate who belongs to General or Other Backward Class need to pay ₹200 as application fee, and female aspirants and male individuals belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, or Person with Benchmark Disability are exempted.

  • Duration: Paper 1 (2 hours), Paper 2 (3 hours)
  • Questions: Paper 1 (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude – 200 marks), Paper 2 (Concerned Engineering Discipline – 300 marks)
  • Total Marks: 500
  • Marking Scheme: Negative marking of 1/3 mark for incorrect answers
  • Sections: Paper 1 – General Studies & Engineering Aptitude, Paper 2 – Concerned Engineering Discipline
  • Medium: English

Mains:

  • Mode: Offline (Descriptive)
  • Duration: Each paper 3 hours
  • Questions: Paper 1 & 2 for each discipline (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics & Telecommunication – 300 marks each)
  • Total Marks: 600
  • Sections: Discipline-specific questions
  • Medium: English

Interview:

  • Mode: Face-to-face
  • Questions: Related to problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and academic abilities
