August 2026 is likely to see the release of a centralised employment notification from the Railway Recruitment Boards for the recruitment of paramedical staff under the Indian Railways. Reportedly, the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has approved a total number of 600 vacancies for recruitment against nine different positions, whose breakdown is inside the table.

Eligibility Criteria
If you want to apply for any paramedical staff under the Indian Railways, you must meet the requirements for the respective position, which we have shared inside the table below.
Educational Qualification:
- Nursing Superintendent: 3-year GNM or four-year B.Sc. Nursing, with registration as a nurse & midwife.
- Pharmacist (Entry Grade): 10+2 with PCB or PCM with a diploma in pharmacy or B.Pharm and registration under the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
- Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II: B.Sc. with Chemistry and a 1-year Diploma in Health/Sanitary Inspector or NTC in Health Sanitary Inspector.
- Lab Assistant Grade II: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry or Biology and a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Radiographer (X-Ray Technician): 10+2 with Physics and Chemistry and a 2-year Diploma in Radiography, X-Ray Technology or Radio Diagnosis Technology.
- ECG Technician: 10+2 in PCB or PCM, or BSc in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Zoology, or Botany and a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in ECG Laboratory Technology, Cardiology, or Cardiology Technician.
- Dialysis Technician: B.Sc. in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Zoology, or Botany and a Diploma in Haemodialysis or 2 years of training/experience in haemodialysis.
- Optometrist: BSc Optometry or Diploma in Optometry.
- Audiologist & Speech Therapist: Bachelor’s in Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology.
Age Limit
- Nursing Superintendent: 20 to 40 years
- Pharmacist (Entry Grade): 20 to 35 years
- Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II: 18 to 33 years
- Lab Assistant Grade II: 18 to 33 years
- Radiographer (X-Ray Technician): 19 to 33 years
- ECG Technician: 18 to 33 years
- Dialysis Technician: 20 to 33 years
- Optometrist: 18 to 33 years
- Audiologist & Speech Therapist: 21 to 33 years
If you are above the upper age limit but belong to OBC-NCL, you can claim an age relaxation of 3 years; for SC and ST category candidates, the same is 5 years. There is an additional age relaxation for 10 years for the PwBD category candidates.
Application Fee
To apply for the RRB Paramedical Recruitment 2026, you have to pay the application fee. Note that the payable amount for male candidates belonging to the General, OBC and EWS categories is 500 rupees; and for all female aspirants, minority communities, ex-servicemen, transgender people, people with power with benchmark disability, and male candidates belonging to SC and ST, it is needed to pay online ₹250.
Selection Process
The selection process for different paramedical staff positions under the Indian Railways consists of three stages, which are as follows:
- Computer-Based Test
- Document Verification
- Medical Examination
The Railway Recruitment Boards will prepare the final selection list separately for each zone based on individuals’ performance in the CBT.
Pay Scale
After appointment to any paramedical staff position under the Indian Railways, you will get your salary as per the pay level of the respective positions under the 7th Central Pay Commission. Refer to the listed points to check the starting basic pay for each.
- Nursing Superintendent: ₹44,900 (Pay Level 7)
- Health & Malaria Inspector Grade II: ₹35,400 (Pay Level 6)
- Dialysis Technician: ₹35,400 (Pay Level 6)
- Audiologist & Speech Therapist: ₹35,400 (Pay Level 6)
- Pharmacist (Entry Grade): ₹29,200 (Pay Level 5)
- Radiographer (X-Ray Technician): ₹29,200 (Pay Level 5)
- ECG Technician: ₹25,500 (Pay Level 4)
- Optometrist: ₹25,500 (Pay Level 4)
- Lab Assistant Grade II: ₹21,700 (Pay Level 3)
Notably, the gross salary includes basic pay, dearness allowance, house rent allowance, and other benefits. The net in-hand salary you will get includes deductions on pension and taxes.
